Fine dining in Beertown
July 7th, 2010With all of the great breweries around Portland, you’re going to need to find some great food as well. As always, there’s a great variety, whether you’re looking for steaks or sandwiches. Here is a guide to some of the best dining sites in the downtown area.
- Berbati’s Pan & Restaurant: Berbati’s provides authentic Greek cuisine courtesy of the Papaioannou brothers. The menu includes pita pizzas in Greek, Chicken Alfredo, and Margarita varieties, and of course perfectly grilled gyros. Berbati’s is also dedicated to encouraging art and music, so there’ll probably be something on display during your meal.
- McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside: This eatery offers hometown seafood favorites with a touch of class. Their specialties include stuffed salmon, rainbow trout, and wild sea scallops. For the landlubbers, there are delicious steak, chicken, and pork dishes. To wash it all down, there’s a rotating list of 30 beers on tap.
- Red Star Tavern & Roast House: This traditional American tavern is run by Chef Thomas Dunklin, who was tutored under Emeril Lagasse himself. The All Natural Half Chicken, Suckling Pig Casserole, and Kobe Beef Brisket are all well worth the price. There is also a variety of salads that could tempt you all on their own, such as the Shaved Asparagus with Prosciutto, Pea Ricotta, Pea Shoots, and Almonds.
- Veritable Quandary: VQ is located at a prime place on Portland’s waterfront hiking loop. The food comes right from the city, so you know you’ll have an authentic experience.
